Every business has to maximize its profits and minimize its expenses if it wants to survive. There are a number of ways to accomplish this, but one of the most effective ways is to incorporate fleet tracking software. There are numerous benefits to its use. For starters, it helps business owners save money. It also has the potential to make operations more efficient. Last but not least, it allows business professionals to spot problems early, before they can grow into bigger issues.
When it comes to saving money, fleet tracking software is one of the most effective tools that managers can use. It helps them better understand the routes that drivers are taking and it also helps them develop more efficient business practices that can help them save a great deal of money over time. Essentially, the software can make the entire operation flow more smoothly, minimizing the miles that are driven. This in turn helps the company save money on fuel costs and vehicle maintenance. It also helps supervisors spot problems by giving them a heads-up when drivers are taking routes that are inefficient or when they are not doing the jobs they are being paid to do. Things can be dealt with before these issues cost the company too much money.
With the use of fleet tracking software, business owners can take a company’s finances to the next level. The software is perhaps the ultimate tool to help companies make more money by reducing their everyday operating costs. When all of these benefits are considered more in-depth, there is every reason to start using the software right away. The benefits that are offered are measured in the profits that business owners can reap.
If you’re a business owner with even a small fleet of vehicles, you’re certainly aware of how much time and energy is invested into tracking the mileage on your company vehicles. Manual mileage logging and then data entry of the information required to create a useable report is inefficient, frustrating and time consuming, and you still have no way of knowing whether your company vehicles are being misused by employees.
As a solution for tedious mileage reporting, TrackingTheWorld GPS tracking software offers automated reporting options, eliminating the need for manual logging, plus other features to assure the proper use of your company vehicles. For example, our tracking software offers geo-fencing which automatically sends alerts via cell phone or email to let you know when a company vehicle leaves a predetermined area. With the use of real time GPS tracking devices for company vehicles you’ll also be alerted to harsh driving patterns. GPS trackers are also ideal for providing an additional level of security for employees, with some models offering a panic alert button, which automatically launches a rapid series of location alerts to preset phone numbers and email addresses.

Officials in the city of Warren in Macomb County Michigan have agreed to add GPS tracking technology, a nearly $600-thousand dollar investment, to city vehicles including snow plows, and sanitation trucks. The fleet tracking initiative will provide an extra convenience to citizens such as knowing when to expect services, and the city hopes to recoup their investment in efficiency by eliminating manual mileage reporting, and more carefully watching the location of city assets.
With real time GPS tracking updates every 2 minutes via GPS tracking software, supervisors will know when a city vehicle has left its predetermined set of boundaries, a process known as geo-fencing, and will receive reports when city vehicles are traveling at excessive speeds or when brakes are operated abruptly. The city expects that the savings gained by automated reporting, and eliminating the excessive or unauthorized use of city vehicles will be well worth the investment.

Portage Township Schools on the southeast side of Lake Michigan recently installed GPS trackers on all 110 buses in the school’s fleet. Added as a measure of convenience for both parents and administration, the program was given a “test drive” during summer school to prepare for the beginning of the 2014 school year.
Using GPS tracking software on computers or smart phones, parents and faculty are able to see the exact location of any bus at any time–even on field trip days– While the new GPS tracking system will most assuredly offer parents peace of mind that their child made it to school safely, officials also hope it will be an added convenience for parents of children whose buses are running late. With tracking software, parents will have detailed information on when the bus can be expected, hopefully eliminating the need to call the school officials.
School administration also hopes to use the system to conserve fuel and maintain efficiency by rerouting buses when traffic incidents occur.

After the deployment of 260 GPS tracking devices in garbage trucks, police cars, and other city owned vehicles over the last few years, the city of Grand Rapids recently suspended and warned various city workers. The reported offenses mostly consist of taking longer than authorized breaks and driving company vehicles for personal use. However, a few years back, a police officer was forced to resign after GPS data revealed that he or she was taking unauthorized breaks outside of his or her designated patrol area.
The city has recently begun installing GPS trackers on fire trucks with the goal of reducing the response times of some calls. Based on data provided by GPS tracking software, dispatchers can easily select the truck in the best position to respond
The tracking devices used by the city of Grand Rapids are not covert tracking devices; all employees are made aware of their presence on city owned vehicles.

Entrusted with both the safety and education of our children, public school administrators seeking to more effectively manage student transportation are increasingly turning to GPS tracking devices and tracking software to help them efficiently manage bus routes, monitor drivers, and ensure child safety.
Bus Route Planning
In both rural and urban areas, planning for pick-up and drop-off of hundreds, or even thousands of school children requires organization and efficiency. Bus routes must be planned to maximize fuel efficiency, minimize mileage, and be timed perfectly to get students to school on time.
GPS tracking software is beneficial in planning student transportation because of its ability to quickly assist administrators in determining the most efficient route of travel for every bus in a school’s fleet.
Safety First with GPS Devices
The most important responsibility of any public school system is to ensure the safety of its students, and GPS tracking systems have become an additional layer of security for students and drivers on bus routes. With tracking devices installed on each school bus, and the use of GPS tracking software, school administrators are easily alerted if a bus leaves its intended route of travel, if a bus is stopped for any length of time, and direction of travel.
While no one wants to think of the possibility of irresponsible school staff members responsible for the safety of school children, it is an unfortunate reality. For these situations, GPS tracking systems provide a cost effective way to monitor school bus drivers for speed, location, and possible misuse of a school fleet vehicles.
GPS tracking software can protect your drivers in the event they are falsely accused of disregarding speed limits or other committing other violations. With GPS tracking devices, routes of travel are precisely recorded and are may be played back in real time.

LandLine Magazine recently reported that a covert GPS tracking device allowed police in Florida to track and recover a tractor trailer containing clothing items. The trailer was stolen as it sat unattended in a truck stop parking lot. The retail shipment, abandoned by the thieves suspected to be monitoring police traffic, was tracked to a location only 30 miles from where it was stolen. According to the article, Florida has the highest percentage of cargo theft, clothing theft adds up to more than $300,000 per year, and approximately 85% of thefts occur due to rigs left running and unattended by their drivers.

Here are two of the latest GPS tracking news updates we’ve found around the Web today:
Just when Samsung is making James Bond-ish watches popular again, AT&T has announced it will release a GPS tracking equipped smartwatch for kids which will use geo-fencing to alert parents when a child leaves his or her predetermined safe zone, and will enable parents to see their child’s location at any time provided the child is wearing the tracker. Known as the FiLIP, the GPS tracking device for kids is also capable of voice communication with up to 5 numbers which are preprogrammed by parents. There’s also a panic button that, when pressed for 3 seconds, will cause the device to begin dialing contact numbers.
China to Use GPS Tracking on Government Cars
In an effort to curb abuse by public officials, China will begin installing GPS tracking devices on thousands of government vehicles. The move comes partly in response to criticism for supposed widespread corruption and flamboyant lifestyles among government officials. Guangzhou, a city in southern China, took on a similar project for fleet tracking of government vehicles in 2011. The city now reports that it saves more than $6 million dollars per year due to the GPS tracking systems.
In the aftermath of a recent fatal accident and numerous close calls, Italy’s famed gondolas will begin using GPS tracking systems to help manage water traffic and prevent injuries. The addition of GPS tracking devices will affect approximately 5,000 vessels, including water taxis. Other changes will include a requirement for vessels to be equipped with identifying plates on their exteriors, a reduction in overall traffic, and restricted travel times in the early morning when larger crafts such as barges are at work. CCTV cameras have also been added to some canals. Venice receives more than 60,000 tourists per day during the summer months.
