The continuing changes of GPS tracking and improved technology continue to transform the GPS tracking industry.

GPS Tracking Now!–Real Time Trackers

GPS tracking units now offfer updates as often as 2-3 second intervals.
Instead of waiting several minutes for GPS tracking locate reports, GPS tracking is now available on demand.

GPS Tracking Performance Improvements

No longer is it necessary to deal with low signal problem spots.   Many GPS tracking devices are now effective in underground parking garages, and other locations such as movie theatres.

GPS Tracking Units Continue to Shrink!
Just as computers and cell phones continue to get smaller, so do GPS tracking units.  Credit card sized GPS trackers are now popular for personal security GPS tracking, covert GPS tracking, and fleet tracking.

Unsafe drinking water is a leading cause of disease and death,  and is considerable world health issue.   A new GPS tracking device known as the Water Canary, tests any water sample to evaluate its safety and then pinpoint the user’s location via GPS tracking.  The result is a solution for allowing individuals to determe if their water source is safe and crowd sourcing to alert officials to “bad water” areas via GPS tracking technology.

While currently hand-constructed at around $100 each, the goal is to mass produce the canary yellow water sampler GPS tracking units and provide them to at-risk areas/individuals at no charge.

California, in addition to other states, has banned talking or texting while driving unless you’re using a hands-free device.  We found an interesting article answering the question of whether or not messing around with your phone’s GPS tracker service while driving is legal.   Is button pushing to adjust GPS tracking features just as illegal as texting with no hands-free device?

A California Highway Patrol officer responded by saying that it is not illegal to do so IF you are able to to adjust/operate the cell phone’s GPS tracking features while maintaining control of the vehicle at a speed safe for driving conditions at the time.  Sounds like common sense is the key here.

A New Jersey judge recently ruled that the use of GPS trackers in an effort to track a spouse suspected of infidelity is legal.  The specific case involved a woman who used a GPS tracking system placed in the glove box of her husband’s car to track his whereabouts upon the recommendation of a private investigator.  After 2-weeks of covert GPS tracking, the man’s car was tracked to another woman’s driveway, where he was leaving  with another woman in his car.

The judge in the appellate court case cited that the use of  GPS trackers in a family-owned vehicle does not constitute an invasion of privacy, and that the suspected spouse did not drive to a location where he had a reasonable expectation of privacy.
